Being "pro-women" does not make us "anti-men". Gender equality is not solely a women's issue, it is an economic issue.
Everyone should be challenging systematic biases when they witness it, act against discrimination and drive gender parity.
All things are not equal between men and women. We have real work to do.
It is a diverse world and we need to challenge situations that are no longer serving us.
"We all share a responsibility to address the social and economic issues facing women, which are fundamentally human issues." - Government of Canada
We have been asked why men are at some of our events.
We need men, women and non-binary individuals alike to be our allies, support our cause and amplify our voice. There are indeed some events that we host where men are welcome to attend. If they hold our values to be true, we need allies, and the best way for them to learn about the issues facing women is to attend some of our events.
Transgender and non-binary individuals are always welcome.

Sadly, all genders experience violence but 98.5% of people served were women according to a 2022 report from Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters. Ending gender-based violence is urgent. 184 women and girls were violently killed in 2022; one women or girl is killed every 48 hours* (Source: https://femicideincanada.ca/callitfemicide2018-2022.pdf)
“Domestic violence can carry over into the workplace, threatening women’s ability to maintain economic independence. More than half (53%) of study respondents who experienced domestic violence said that at least one type of abusive act happened at or near their workplace. Almost 40% of those who had experienced domestic abuse said it made it difficult for them to get to work, and 8.5% said that they lost their jobs because of it.” – Canadian Women’s Foundation
It affects us all. It is heartbreaking and tragic and totally preventable.
“We still have a culture of stigma. Stigma silences and leads to preventable tragedies.” – Canadian Women’s Foundation
